Audi is starting a new chapter in its successful history of mid-size cars with the new A5 range. Launched 30 years after the first Audi A4, this new generation, now called the Audi A5, impresses with its premium proportions and refined design. The new body style perfectly embodies the sporty essence of Audi's design philosophy. A new interior design language creates a generous sense of space and showcases the screens on a digital stage. The new operating concept enhances the interaction with the vehicle. Efficient, partially electrified combustion engines and exciting S models complete the range.

With the expansion of its model range, AUDI AG has restructured its vehicle nomenclature since 2024. Even and odd numbers will now differentiate between electric and combustion engine models. With the launch of the latest generation, the long-standing best-seller, the Audi A4, will be called the Audi A5 and will be produced in Neckarsulm. In Canada, it will be offered in two new variants: the A5 Sedan and the S5 Sedan. These versions are the first models to be launched on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC).

Audi CEO, Gernot Döllner, said of the new model range: 'Alongside the expansion of our all-electric portfolio, we are launching a new generation of models with efficient combustion engines. The Audi A5 range, with its athletic design, completely new interior, and future-proof electronic architecture, will be the first. The advanced MHEV Plus technology enables partially electric driving and is therefore even more efficient.'

Longer and wider, the new versions are gaining in stature. Audi has also expanded their standard equipment, propelling the new Audi A5 into the upper echelon of mid-size sedans. The completely redesigned user experience, centered around the E³ electronic architecture version 1.2, perfects this upscale positioning. Options are grouped into packages.

The dynamic and muscular exterior design

At first sight, the completely revamped A5 range boasts a powerful and sleek design. Its modified proportions—long wheelbase, large wheels, and a low, sporty body—exude progressive dynamics and premium standards. The sedan's sporty and compact silhouette extends rearward in an elegant arc, seamlessly merging into the shallow rear window in a coupe-like fashion, before terminating at the visually short tailgate with a striking spoiler lip.

The tailgate, a first in this segment, offers a compelling blend of design and functionality. It opens with the rear window, providing easy access to the luggage compartment. This innovative approach redefines the sedan concept for Audi.

Dominating the front is the wide and significantly flatter Singleframe grille with a three-dimensional honeycomb structure. Combined with the slim and precisely drawn headlights, it creates a striking and focused expression. The "soft nose" integrated into the bumper seamlessly aligns the hood with the front of the vehicle. The prominent shoulder bulges above the wheels, reminiscent of the Audi Urquattro, are a hallmark of Audi's design DNA.

The rear is a striking blend of sporty and emotional design, combined with intelligent technology. A combination of sculptural geometry and a continuous three-dimensional light band gives the rear of the new Audi A5 a dynamic and visually striking presence. Other key features of the rear view in the base models include the clean and modern design of the bumper with a dark diffuser and the high-quality rectangular exhaust tips.

Setting new benchmarks in digital lighting

The Audi A5 features cutting-edge digital LED daytime running lights and second-generation digital OLED taillights. With approximately 60 segments per OLED panel, the taillights create dynamic displays that enhance the A5's visual appeal. These lights enable advanced vehicle-to-X communication, improving road safety with features like the new communication light. Dynamic lighting sequences when unlocking or starting the vehicle showcase Audi's signature lighting design, adding a touch of excitement to every drive. The three-dimensional design of the headlights and taillights, combined with optional digital light signatures, seamlessly blend the physical and digital worlds.

Experience the perfect fusion of technology and comfort in our new interior

The new Audi A5's interior design is centered around four key elements. A human-centric approach ensures the interior is always tailored to the driver and passenger. The Digital Scene, featuring MMI touchscreens for both front occupants, is a standout feature. Material-Driven Design creates a spacious and comfortable atmosphere. And with a clear layout and easy-to-use controls, the interior offers excellent visibility - a characteristic we call Visual Clarity. The optional dynamic interaction light further enhances the connection between the vehicle and its occupants.

The new Audi A5 offers a more connected driving experience with its enhanced operating concept and E³ electronic architecture. Seamlessly integrating into your digital life, the Audi A5 features a curved, OLED MMI panoramic display and a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. The optional 10.9-inch MMI display for the front passenger completes the digital experience. With an improved head-up display, drivers can control more vehicle and infotainment functions directly from their line of sight.

Advanced MHEV plus hybrid system

The advanced 48-volt MHEV+ system assists the combustion engine, reducing CO2 emissions and enhancing performance. The belt-driven starter generator (BSG) allows for partial electric driving, leading to improved fuel economy.

The MHEV plus system offers significant advantages in terms of CO2 emissions and fuel economy over earlier MHEV systems.

The PTG can provide an additional 18 kW (24 hp) of electric power, boosting the combustion engine. It also recovers up to 25 kW of energy during deceleration, allowing for partially electric driving and enhancing fuel efficiency. The optional electric air conditioning compressor ensures continued climate comfort even at stoplights.

The integrated brake system (iBRS) with blending capability allows for complete decoupling of the brake pedal from the brake hydraulics. In models equipped with MHEV+, the necessary deceleration can be achieved primarily through regenerative braking, without the need for friction brakes. Friction brakes are only activated when a higher level of brake pedal pressure is applied. The braking feel remains unchanged.

Engines available at launch

The Audi A5 family offers a wide range of performance options, from entry-level models with conventional engines to dynamic sports cars and comfortable long-distance cruisers. Powertrains, transmissions, electrification levels, and drivetrain types are tailored to meet customer expectations.

The entry-level engine is a 2.0 TFSI producing 150 kW (204 hp), equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) and optimized for reduced fuel consumption under partial load.

The VGT technology ensures consistent and responsive torque, even at low engine speeds. The four-cylinder turbocharged engine can be paired with a dual-clutch transmission.

The Audi S5 sports car is powered by a 3.0-liter TFSI V6 engine producing 270 kW (367 hp) with an optimized combustion process. This engine features the MHEV+ technology for the first time. The S tronic dual-clutch transmission, revised for higher torque capacity, also reduces weight on the front axle, enhancing agility. Partial electrification through the 48-volt MHEV+ system reduces CO2 emissions while offering high recuperation performance. The quattro sport differential with torque vectoring, in combination with a variable all-wheel drive clutch, ensures exceptional lateral dynamics.

Dynamic chassis and steering calibration

The continuous development of the suspension allows the new Audi A5 to accurately convey the brand's characteristic driving dynamics. Thanks to meticulous work on the suspension and steering, the Audi A5 offers precise and effortless handling. With the optional adaptive dampers, there is a noticeable difference between comfort and sportiness. The progressive steering has also been significantly improved, offering increased precision.
